HANGING INSTRUCTIONS &
TIPS
WALL PREPARATION
-New
Drywall
Apply a wallcovering primer with a brush or roller.
This provides
a smooth even surface to adhere the wallpaper.
Also, it will be easier to
remove the wallcovering at a later date.
Allow to dry
throughly.
-Painted Walls
Fill cracks or holes with spackling
compound. When dry, sand any rough spots until smooth.
Be sure to clean walls
with a bleach or ammonia and water solution.
Then, apply a wallcovering
primer to the entire wall surface.
-Existing Wallpaper
Remove old
wallcoverings and sand smooth. Clean walls with a bleach or ammonia and water
solution.
Apply a primer to wall surface. *Note* Hanging over existing
wallpaper is possible but not recommended.
However, if you are going to go
over the existing paper- use a wallcovering primer over the wall and
see how
it reacts- if it bubbles up after drying then it will need to be striped off the
wall.
If it is not bubbled-then you can hang over it with a vinyl over vinyl
adhesive for existing vinyl wallcoverings.
For non vinyl existing papers
you can hang with the prepasted paste on the back of the wallpaper or a clear
adhesive- however sizing over the existing wallpaper would help with grip and
positioning.
If you are not sure if the existing wallpaper is a vinyl-
play it safe by using the primer over the paper surface.
Use a pigmented
[white] primer over an existing wallpaper if it is darker than the new
wallpaper-
It is possible for the old pattern to show through the new
wallpaper if it is a light background.
-All walls should be sized to
maximize slip. This allows for easier postioning of wallpaper
as it is being
hung, and makes it easier to remove at a later date.
Clean wall of dirt and
grease.Grease spots can bleed through new wallcovering,
a stain killer can be
used over the greasy areas.
WALLPAPER HANGING INSTRUCTIONS
-Start project in an inconspicuous spot such as behind a door, in a
corner or next to a window.
Determin strip measurement and possible pattern
placement on wall. If the paper has a pronounced pattern,
plan to have an
entire motif below the final trimmed top edge for the most pleasing
effect.
-Cut strip to have small excess on top and bottom of strip.
-Lay strip pattern side down on flat
surface. Brush water or activator on prepasted paper or
paste on unpasted
paper on the back with a paint brush.

-Fold paper from each end to
center, paste side to paste side. This is a booking process
to activate paste
and to relax the wallpaper.Allow paper to set for a few minutes for the adhesive
to activate.

- Unfold top portion of fole and position on the wall with level
or plumb line. Leaving a small excess at the top
of strip to later trim.
First and last strip on each wall should have approx. 1/4- 1/2 inch
lapping
onto adjoining wall to hide corner when leveling the first strip of the new
wall.
-After top portion of strip is level with excess at ceiling and lapped
in corner.
-Smooth out portion with a smoother or
brush, from center toward the edges to remove air bubbles.
Unfold bottom
portion of strip and repeat smoothing. If wrinkles occur, pull strip away from
wall and rehang.

-Trim along top & bottom of strip with straight edge and razor blade.

Clean strip with wet sponge.
-Determine pattern match for next strip. Cut strip and fit strip edges together without any
overlap or gap.
Carefully match patterns at seam. Follow previous
directions.
-Allow wallpaper adhesive to set a minute, then roll seam with
seam roller to ensure adhesion and tight seam.
-Before hanging the last strip
on the wall measure the distance from the edge of the last strip's edge
to
the corner (adding in the corner lap).
-Cut the strip at the measurement the
entire length of the strip into two pieces and hang first piece.
The first
piece should be hung and lap onto the next wall (to hide unlevel corners and to
have the capability
of arranging the next piece to be level without noticing
it visually.) The second piece, which will start the
new wall should be
leveled while lapping over the corner lapped piece.
-Continue

BORDER HANGING
INSTRUCTIONS
-Measure wall width corner to corner.
Each border strip should extend to full width plus 1/2" to extend around corners
onto adjoining walls. Brush onto the back of the border -water on prepasted
borders or brush paste on unpasted borders. If border is being applied over vinyl
wallpaper or other shiny surfaces- do not wet border but us a vinyl over vinyl
adhesive.Fold border as shown or back to back- allow time to activate paste.

Hang border and lap onto next wall approx. 1/4 inch to hide corner.
Smooth as you go.Start new roll in corner matching pattern and positioning for
new wall. Clean with sponge and fresh water to remove excess
paste.
HELPFUL
TIPS
-Use a sharp razor blade. The snap off knifes are very
convenient for keeping your blade sharp.
-On large repeat patterns work
off of two different bolts of wallpaper to save paper from the
repeat.
-Hang on room temperture walls. Temperature changes on walls can
result in seam separation and other problems. Since the paper expands and
contracts as it dries walls should be at a consistent temperture through the
drying process.
-Save a sample and the pattern number with run/lot number
of your wallpaper. These numbers are critical for later locating the
pattern.
We hope these instructions & tips help you hang with
confidence
and make your experience enjoyable. Have fun with your
project!
